Physiotherapy

Your session will start with a thorough physiotherapy assessment and gait analysis. I will evaluate your pet’s movement patterns, mobility, co-ordination, strength and functional abilities, and identify areas of pain and any lesions in joints, muscles, tendons, or ligaments.

Individual Treatment Programmes are prescribed to relieve pain, enhance both the quality and speed of healing injured tissues, re-train muscle memory to achieve new efficient movement patterns and restore full functional activities to improve the quality of your pet’s life.
Animals shift their weight to off load from pain, or to compensate for loss of joint range, muscle weakness, or poor balance. This frequently causes secondary issues in their spines and overuse injuries in their other limbs. Treating these secondary issues as well as the primary condition is vital to restoring normal movement patterns.
Your treatment programme may include:

  • Massage and Myofascial releasesTreatment Physiotherapy
  • Joint mobilisations
  • Passive and dynamic stretches
  • Electrotherapy: Laser, Ultrasound, Pulsed Electromagnetic Energy (PEME)
  • Kinesiology taping
  • Therapeutic Exercises to improve :
    • Joint mobility
    • Muscle strength
    • Co-ordinated muscle firing
    • Balance and co-ordination
    • Postural stability
    • Body awareness
  • Home programme which may include Ice, heat therapy or PEME therapy

In addition to musculoskeletal injuries I am able to offer Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBM), also known as Cold Laser or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) for systemic conditions such as Kidney Disease in cats and dogs, Westie Lung Disease, and Ophthalmological Diseases (using LED). I use protocols recommended by Thor Laser, world leaders in PBM training, treatments and development.
