VIP Vet Physio is closely associated with help4paws, owned by Joulia Prothero-Thomas.
Joulia specialises in designing and making bespoke, and quite often unique, orthotics for small animals especially dogs.
Like many of us, her inspiration for developing help4paws stemmed from a wish to help Sam her own lovely Labrador. Sam was a rescue with elbow dysplasia which progressed to severe arthritis resulting in extensive corrective surgery at Fitzpatrick’s Referral Centre. Being unable to find a suitable supplier of high quality orthotics for Sam’s special needs Joulia utilised her unique skills as a seamstress and designer, coupled with extensive problem solving skills, sourced specialist materials of the highest quality from all around the UK, and designed and constructed them herself.
Through her connection to Fitzpatrick Referrals Joulia was approached to make challenging and complex supports for other dogs and cats being treated there, and this ultimately developed into the launch of help4paws. Whether it is a family pet or a champion agility dog, a tiny Chihuahua or a Great Dane, Joulia has covered the whole range.
Joulia and Sally work closely together when it comes to designing orthotics. These have ranged from a body suit to help stabilise Norman, a swimmers puppy, when he was only 6 weeks old, to perfect fit shoulder stabilisation braces for dogs with medial shoulder instability, dynamic toe-up splints and protective boots.
Joulia also makes bespoke orthopaedic beds providing full pressure relief. These are suitable for all animals but most especially helpful for elderly pets and pets with limited mobility or those recovering from major surgery.
Joulia’s passion is to help animals in need. She travels abroad when necessary to see patients and is involved with several rescue centres in Cyprus.
Help4paws was created for Sam, and is a lasting legacy to her love of Sam and all animals in need.
